COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are braids damaging to your hair?

There are two major things that can cause damage to your hair while its  braided.  If they are
improperly applied ( too tight) or if they are left in too long. Extensions should be left in the
hair the maximum of 2 months and  no longer.  If they are left in longer, the hair will start to
lock.  For some, the length of time can be shorter.  Once you begin to see a white build-up at
the top of the braid, (where your hair and the extension meet),
times up.  This white lenty
build-up is just that, lent that your hair has attracted, along with, shampoo residue, build-up
from any products that you have used, as well as, your natural hair oils.  Also, the amount of
hair added to yours should be evenly balanced, so it doesn't  weigh down your hair. Adding
too much hair to  a small amount of natural hair can be very harmful to the hair.

When I take my hair down, I notice a lot of my hair in the comb.  Am I
losing my hair?

Our hair naturally sheds on a daily basis.  So, while it is braided this process continues.  You
can shed over 60 strands a day, this is what you see when you remove your braids.  Keep in
mind, the amount should not be excessive(noticeable patches, clobs of hair).

How should I take care of my hair?

This varies, depending on the style.

Cornrows:  Wrapped every night with form fitted (not tight) satin or silk scarf.  Use a
moisturizing spray, every other day or every two days.  Use light oil/conditioning spray, as
needed.  If cornrows are kept more than two weeks, wash in showers, with diluted shampoo,
gently massaging scalp, rinse well or use a dry shampoo (organic root stimulator's herbal
cleanse). Follow-up with a light scalp oil using a q-tip between the parts.

Micros, Individuals, Twists:   Wrapped nightly with bonnet (satin/silk). Use
moisturizing/conditioning spray, every other day or every two days.  Light oil/conditioning
spray, as needed.  Wash, as you normally do, using diluted shampoo.  Follow shampoo with
the above mentioned products.
